Jatoba is a heavy-duty hardwood grown in Central and South America. It is known as "Brazillian Cherry" due to its resemblance to the North American cherry hardwood. Jatoba is a very hard and heavy wood which makes it excellent in cutting boards. Its other uses include furniture making and flooring.
Cherry is a beautiful golden hardwood, and it grows in Canada and USA. Its properties also make it one of the best woods for cutting boards. It is highly prized by woodworkers all around the world due to its magnificent colour and smooth grain. Its main uses include toys, furniture, flooring, and musical instruments
Maple hardwood is the king of cutting boards. It is grown in Canada as well as USA. The properties of maple are perfect for the use and abuse cutting boards take. It is very hard, but no too hard where it will dull the knife. Its other uses include surfaces that absorb rough impacts such as flooring for bowling alleys. It's also where maple syrup comes from...yum.
The Cottage Board was a super simple design that we came up with to compliment our other designs. We wanted a designthat unlike our other boards, consisted of a simplistic pattern. We found that the Jatoba Cherry Maple combo was the best option for the look we wanted to achieve. This is what the final draft looked like:
The last thing we needed was a name and an animal to dedicate the board to. We wanted a name that represented peace and simplicity. Eventually, we came up with the name "Cottage Board", and it immediately stuck. We decided to dedicate this board to the Asian giants pandas because of their history of being endangered. Also, because it's our favourite animal.
