Walnut is one of the best hardwoods harvested in North America. Its signature dark brown colour is what makes it so unique compared to other North American hardwoods. Common uses for walnut include flooring, caninetry, and musical intruments.
Maple hardwood is the king of cutting boards. It is grown in Canada as well as USA. The properties of maple are perfect for the use and abuse cutting boards take. It is very hard, but no too hard where it will dull the knife. Its other uses include surfaces that absorb rough impacts such as flooring for bowling alleys. It's also where maple syrup comes from...yum.
Bloodwood is a magnificent wood grown in South America, as well as Australia. It is one of the only woods in the world to have a natural tint of red. It is an incredibly hard and dense wood. It has many uses including furniture making, fishing rods, bows, and veneers. However, this red colour can sometimes shift to a purple-red colour.
The Magma Board was an interesting board for us to design. We wanted to create a smaller cutting board than the Monkey Board and Cottage Board. We had also just tried using bloodwood for the first time. Its red colour was incredible and we knew we wanted to use it for the next board design. We tried couple designs and wood combinations until we landed on the walnut maple bloodwood combo. The first draft looked like this:
It wasn't bad, but there was definitely something off. We messed around with the maple and bloodwood heights until we were happy with how it looked. The final draft ended up looking liek this:
We named the board "Magma Board " because of how good the bloodwood looked as it ran across the maple that surrounds it. We decided to dedicate this board to the African elephants.
I love my new Magma board, it is so beautiful and unique and well priced! It is solidly made (not lightweight), great quality and detailed with care, thank you so much!
